Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic principles of jumping on a trampoline, including how gravity affects their jumps, the importance of balance and coordination, and will have practiced various jumping techniques safely.
Materials and Prep
- Trampoline (safely set up in a clear area)
- Comfortable clothing and non-slip socks or bare feet
- Water bottle for hydration
- First aid kit (for safety precautions)
Before starting the lesson, ensure the trampoline is in good condition and the area around it is free of obstacles. Remind the student about safety rules, such as no flips or jumping off the trampoline.
Activities
-
Warm-Up: Start with a few minutes of light stretching to prepare the body for jumping. Focus on legs, arms, and back.
-
Jumping Basics: Teach the student how to jump safely. Start with small bounces, focusing on landing with knees slightly bent to absorb the impact.
-
Balance Challenge: Have the student practice balancing on one foot while jumping. This will help improve their coordination and stability.
-
Jumping Patterns: Create a simple pattern of jumps (e.g., jump, turn, jump) and have the student repeat it. This will help with memory and coordination.
-
Cool Down: End the session with a few minutes of gentle stretching to relax the muscles after jumping.
Talking Points
- "When you jump on the trampoline, gravity pulls you back down. Can you feel how it makes you bounce?"
- "It's important to land with your knees bent. This helps keep your body safe and balanced!"
- "Balancing on one foot while jumping is a fun way to challenge your coordination. Can you try to hold it for 3 seconds?"
- "Remember to follow the jumping pattern we created. It’s like a dance on the trampoline!"
- "After jumping, we cool down to help our muscles relax. Let’s stretch together!"
