Bounce & Spell: Trampoline Word Fun!

Let's jump into spelling with words all about trampolines!

Warm-up: Bounce Talk (5 minutes)

Talk about trampolines! What words come to mind when you think about bouncing? (e.g., jump, high, fun, spring). Let's make a list together.

Introducing the Spelling Words (10 minutes)

Here are our spelling words for today:

  • bounce
  • jump
  • spring
  • safe
  • fun
  • high
  • land
  • mat
  • net
  • flip (optional challenge word)

Let's look at each word. Can you see any tricky parts? Notice the 'ou' sound in 'bounce', the short 'u' in 'jump' and 'fun', and the 'a' sounds in 'safe', 'land', and 'mat'.

Activity 1: Action Spelling (15 minutes)

Let's get moving (safely)!

  1. Sky Writing: Stand up and 'write' each spelling word in the air with your finger. Say each letter out loud as you write it.
  2. Bounce & Spell (Optional & Supervised): If you have access to a trampoline and it's safe, do small, controlled bounces. On each bounce up, say the next letter of a spelling word. *Alternative:* Do small hops or jumping jacks on the floor instead for each letter.
  3. Letter Hop: Write letters on pieces of paper and spread them out (safely). Hop from letter to letter to spell out the words.

Activity 2: Trampoline Word Worksheet (15 minutes)

Time for some written practice!

  • Word Scramble: Unscramble letters to make the spelling words (e.g., 'ecnubo' -> 'bounce').
  • Fill-in-the-Blanks: Complete sentences using the spelling words. (e.g., "It is important to be ______ on the trampoline.")
  • Draw & Label: Draw a picture of a trampoline and label the 'mat' and the 'net' using your spelling words.

Assessment: Spelling Check (5 minutes)

Let's see how well you learned the words! I will say a word, and you try to write it down correctly. OR Read the sentences you wrote for Activity 2 and we'll check the spelling together.

Wrap-up (5 minutes)

Great job today! We practiced spelling words all about something fun - trampolines! Which word was the easiest to spell? Which was the hardest? Remember to look for these words when you read or write about trampolines!
