Objective
By the end of this nature walk lesson, the student will be able to identify at least three different plants and two types of animals in their local environment, while also understanding the importance of nature and how to take care of it.
Materials and Prep
- No materials are required for this lesson.
- Before the lesson, ensure the student is dressed appropriately for the weather and has comfortable shoes for walking.
- Choose a safe and accessible location for the nature walk, such as a nearby park or garden.
Activities
-
Nature Scavenger Hunt
Before heading out, create a simple list of items for the student to find during the walk, such as a pine cone, a feather, or a specific flower. This will keep them engaged and excited about exploring!
-
Animal Spotting
Encourage the student to look for animals during the walk. They can keep a tally of how many different types they see, like birds, squirrels, or insects, and share their findings at the end.
-
Plant Identification
Help the student observe and identify different plants. They can describe the leaves, colors, and shapes. Ask questions like, “What do you think this plant needs to grow?” to encourage thinking about nature.
-
Nature Art
Once back home, the student can create a nature collage using leaves, flowers, and other natural items they found during the walk. This will help them remember their adventure!

- "Look at all the different colors in nature! What colors do you see around you?"
- "Did you know that plants and animals depend on each other? Can you think of how they help each other?"
- "What do you think this plant needs to grow? Water, sunlight, and soil are very important!"
- "How do animals find food in the wild? Let's think about where they might look!"
- "Every time we go outside, we can learn something new! What do you want to learn today?"
- "Nature is like a big puzzle. Each piece is important! What piece do you think is your favorite?"
