Objective

By the end of this lesson, Vaeda will learn the basics of baking bread, including how to mix ingredients, knead dough, and shape the bread. She will also understand the importance of each ingredient and how they work together to create delicious bread.

Materials and Prep

  • Flour
  • Water
  • Yeast
  • Salt
  • A large mixing bowl
  • A clean surface for kneading
  • A baking tray
  • A towel or plastic wrap

Before the lesson, make sure to have all the ingredients measured out and ready. Explain to Vaeda what each ingredient does in the bread-making process.

Activities

  • Mixing the Ingredients

Start by letting Vaeda mix the flour, salt, and yeast in a large bowl. Help her pour in the water and encourage her to stir with a wooden spoon until it forms a dough. This is a great way for her to practice her mixing skills!

  • Kneading the Dough

Once the dough is formed, it's time to knead! Show Vaeda how to push, fold, and turn the dough with her hands. This activity is not only fun but also helps develop her motor skills.

  • Shaping the Bread

After kneading, let Vaeda shape the dough into a loaf or rolls. Encourage her creativity by allowing her to make different shapes. This is her chance to be an artist with bread!

  • Waiting for the Dough to Rise

Cover the dough with a towel or plastic wrap and explain that it needs to rest and grow. While waiting, you can read a story or do a fun bread-related song together!

  • Baking and Enjoying

Once the dough has risen, place it in the oven to bake. While it’s baking, talk about how the heat changes the dough into bread. Once it’s ready, let Vaeda help with the final reveal and enjoy the warm bread together!

Talking Points

  • "Do you know what makes the bread rise? It's the yeast! It's like a tiny magic that makes the dough grow!"
  • "Look at how sticky the dough is! When we knead it, we're helping it become smooth and strong!"
  • "What shape do you want to make? You can make a round roll or a long loaf! It's your choice!"
  • "When we wait for the dough to rise, it’s like giving it a nap! It will wake up and be fluffy!"
  • "Smell that? That’s the yummy smell of baking bread! It means our hard work is turning into something delicious!"
