Objective
By the end of this lesson, Vaeda will be able to identify and name the planets in our solar system, understand their basic characteristics, and complete a fun solar system puzzle using her creativity.
Materials and Prep
- Solar system puzzle pieces (printed or drawn)
- Coloring materials (crayons, markers, colored pencils)
- Large paper for drawing the solar system
Before the lesson, gather the materials and make sure to have a comfortable space for Vaeda to work on her puzzle and drawings. Familiarize yourself with the names and order of the planets to help guide her through the lesson.
Activities
-
Planet Puzzle Time:
Start by giving Vaeda the solar system puzzle pieces. Help her put the pieces together in the correct order of the planets. As she works, talk about each planet and its unique features.
-
Coloring the Planets:
Once the puzzle is complete, provide Vaeda with coloring materials and ask her to color each planet. Encourage her to use her imagination and create unique colors for each planet!
-
Draw Your Solar System:
After coloring, give her a large piece of paper to draw her own version of the solar system. Ask her to include the sun and all the planets in her drawing. This will help her visualize their positions in space.
Talking Points
- "Can you help me find the first planet? It's the one closest to the sun!"
- "Look at how different each planet is! Which one do you think is the biggest?"
- "What color do you want to make Mars? It's known as the red planet!"
- "Great job drawing! Can you tell me which planet is your favorite and why?"
