Objective

By the end of this lesson, Penelope will understand the basic steps involved in running for the presidency in the United States, learn about key historical figures in American politics, and express her creativity through art and music related to the theme of the White House.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Access to a quiet space for reading and discussion
  • Simple musical instruments (like a tambourine or maracas, if available)
  • Knowledge about the White House and U.S. presidents (basic facts will be provided during the lesson)

Activities

  • Presidential Portraits: Penelope will draw her favorite president or a fictional president she creates. She can think about what they would look like and what kind of clothes they would wear. This activity will help her express her understanding of a president's role.

  • Campaign Jingle: Penelope will create a short jingle or song that could be used in a presidential campaign. She can use simple rhythms and rhymes to make it catchy and fun, helping her learn about the importance of communication in politics.

  • Story Time: Read a short story about a famous U.S. president or a fun fact about the White House. After reading, Penelope can share what she learned and discuss why that president was important.

  • Voting Simulation: Create a simple voting scenario where Penelope can vote for her favorite ice cream flavor as if it were a presidential election. This will teach her about the voting process and the importance of making choices.
