Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic steps of making cupcakes and will have fun exploring different ingredients and textures while engaging in a hands-on activity.

Materials and Prep

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Baking powder
  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups
  • Spoon for mixing
  • Cupcake liners
  • Muffin tin

Before the lesson, make sure to set up a safe workspace in the kitchen. Gather all materials and ensure that the student can easily reach them.

Activities

  • Ingredient Exploration

    Let the student touch, smell, and see each ingredient. Talk about what they feel like and what they smell like. For example, "The flour is soft and white!"

  • Mixing Fun

    Allow the student to help mix the ingredients together in a bowl. Encourage them to stir and feel the mixture. Say, "Look how it changes when we stir it!"

  • Pouring Practice

    Let the student help pour the batter into the cupcake liners. This will help them practice their pouring skills. Say, "Can you pour the batter? Let's fill them up!"

  • Decorating Time

    Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled, provide simple toppings like sprinkles. Let the student decorate their cupcakes with their favorite toppings. Say, "Wow, look at all those colors!"
