  • A comfortable space to write
  • A timer (optional, for timed writing activities)

Before the lesson, it's helpful to know some basic facts about Eric the Red, such as his Viking background and his role in discovering Greenland. This will provide context for the writing prompt.

Activities

  • Story Time: Start with a brief storytelling session about Eric the Red. Describe his adventures and how he became known as a mighty warrior. This will help the student visualize the character and setting.
  • Drawing Inspiration: After the story, have the student draw a picture of Eric the Red in battle or discovering new lands. This helps them engage with the material creatively.
  • Writing Prompt: Provide the writing prompt: "Imagine you are Eric the Red. Write about a day in your life as a mighty warrior." Encourage the student to think about what challenges he faced and how he overcame them.
  • Sharing Time: Let the student read their story aloud. This builds confidence and encourages them to express their thoughts and creativity.
