Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to understand the importance of making their own choices and expressing their thoughts through writing. They will create a short story or a poem that reflects their feelings about ignoring outside influences.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or crayons
  • Quiet space to think and write

Before the lesson, remind the student that it’s okay to have their own opinions and that they can express themselves freely. Encourage them to think about times when they felt pressured to do something they didn't want to do.

Activities

  • Story Time:

Read a short story about a character who learns to stand up for themselves and make their own choices. Discuss the character's feelings and choices with the student.

  • Brainstorming Session:

Have the student think of situations where they felt influenced by others. They can draw or write these situations down to help them organize their thoughts.

  • Writing Prompt:

Ask the student to write a story or poem about a time they ignored someone trying to influence them. Encourage them to use their imagination and express their feelings.

  • Sharing Time:

Let the student share their story or poem with you. Celebrate their creativity and discuss what they learned from the experience.
