Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basic needs and characteristics of cows, including what they eat, where they live, and how they help us on the farm. The student will also have fun with interactive activities related to cows!

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Crayons or markers
  • Small toy cow (if available)
  • Space to move around for activities

Before the lesson, make sure you have a quiet space for the activities and that you are ready to have fun learning about cows!

Activities

  • Cow Drawing:

The student will draw their own cow using crayons or markers. Encourage them to be creative and add grass and a barn in the background!

  • Cow Sounds:

The student will learn to make cow sounds. Practice saying "moo" together and have fun imitating the sounds cows make!

  • Cow Movement Game:

Play a game where the student pretends to be a cow. They can walk around on all fours and 'graze' on imaginary grass. You can join in too!

  • Story Time:

Read a short story about a cow. You can make up a story together about a cow's day on the farm!

Talking Points

  • "What do you think cows eat? They love to munch on grass!"
  • "Cows live in a special place called a barn. Have you seen a barn before?"
  • "Did you know cows can make milk? Milk comes from cows!"
  • "Cows come in different colors, like black, white, and brown! What color do you think your cow is?"
  • "Cows are very friendly animals. Do you think you would like to pet a cow?"
