Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize and describe different types of apples, understand the color and shape of apples, and enjoy engaging in sensory play related to apples.
Materials and Prep
- Fresh apples (any variety available)
- Paper towels for cleanup
- Small bowl or container for apple pieces
- Optional: a small knife for adult use to cut apples (if applicable)
Before the lesson, make sure to wash the apples thoroughly. If you plan to cut the apples, do so while ensuring safety and supervision. Prepare a clean area for activities.
Activities
-
Apple Exploration:
Let the student touch, smell, and look at the apples. Encourage them to feel the smooth skin and smell the fruit. Ask them to describe what they see and feel.
-
Color Sorting:
If you have different colored apples, help the student sort them by color. Use simple phrases like "red apple" or "green apple" as they sort.
-
Apple Tasting:
Cut the apples into small pieces (if applicable), and let the student taste them. Encourage them to express their likes or dislikes with simple words or gestures.
-
Apple Art:
Using the apple as a stamp, let the student dip it in a little water (or edible paint if available) and press it onto paper to create apple prints. This is a fun sensory activity!
