Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize themselves in a mirror, identify their own name, and express simple feelings about themselves, fostering a sense of self-awareness and confidence.
Materials and Prep
- A mirror (any reflective surface will do)
- Simple name cards (you can write the student's name on a piece of paper)
- Space for movement and play
Before the lesson, ensure that the mirror is safe and at a height where the child can easily see themselves. Prepare the name card with the child's name written in bold letters.
Activities
-
Mirror Play: Start by guiding the child to look into the mirror. Encourage them to make funny faces, smile, and wave. Ask them questions like, "Who is that?" and help them answer, "That's me!"
-
Name Recognition: Show the child the name card with their name. Say their name together and encourage them to point to the card. You can sing a simple song using their name to make it more engaging.
-
Feelings Fun: After looking in the mirror, ask the child how they feel. Use simple emotions like happy, sad, or silly. Encourage them to make faces that match those feelings and say, "I feel happy!"
Talking Points
- "Look in the mirror! Who is that? It's you!"
- "Can you say your name? Let's say it together!"
- "How do you feel today? Show me your happy face!"
- "You are special because you are you!"
- "Let's wave to ourselves in the mirror. Hi, me!"
