Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize themselves in a mirror and understand that they are a unique individual. They will also learn to identify some of their own features, such as their hair, eyes, and nose.

Materials and Prep

  • A mirror (any size will do)
  • A comfortable space for activities
  • A soft cloth for cleaning the mirror (if needed)

Before the lesson, ensure that the mirror is clean and safe for the child to use. Make sure the area is well-lit and free from distractions.

Activities

  • Mirror Time:

Guide the child to look into the mirror. Encourage them to point to their features as you name them. For example, say, "Can you find your eyes?"

  • Face Painting with Fingers:

Using their fingers, the child can pretend to paint their face in the mirror. You can use imaginary colors and ask them, "What color is your nose?"

  • Selfie Time:

Encourage the child to make funny faces in the mirror. Ask them, "Can you smile? How about a silly face?" This will help them express themselves and recognize their emotions.

Talking Points

  • "Look! That’s you in the mirror! You are so special!"
  • "Can you see your beautiful eyes? What color are they?"
  • "Let’s find your nose! Can you touch it?"
  • "You have a big smile! Show me your happy face!"
  • "You are unique! No one else looks just like you!"
