Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jordan will have a deeper understanding of the inventing process across various subjects. Jordan will create a unique invention concept, explore its historical context, and express it through art and music while developing critical thinking and life skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen/pencil for notes and sketches
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, paper)
  • Access to a dictionary for spelling and definitions
  • Basic math tools (calculator, ruler)
  • Music player or instrument for music activities
  • Physical space for movement activities
  • Resources on inventors and inventions (books or online access)

Activities

  • Invention Brainstorming Session:

Jordan will spend 30 minutes brainstorming ideas for an invention that solves a problem. The focus will be on creativity and practicality. After brainstorming, Jordan will choose one idea to develop further.

  • Artistic Representation:

Using art supplies, Jordan will create a visual representation of the chosen invention. This could be a drawing, a model, or a collage that illustrates how the invention works and its benefits.

  • Inventor Research:

Jordan will research a famous inventor and their contributions to society. This will include understanding the historical context of their inventions and how they impacted the world.

  • Math in Invention:

Jordan will calculate the cost of materials needed for the invention and create a simple budget. This will involve basic math skills like addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

  • Musical Expression:

Jordan will create a short jingle or song that describes the invention and its purpose. This can be done using an instrument or a simple vocal performance.

  • Physical Activity Challenge:

Jordan will design a physical activity that relates to the invention. This could be a game or exercise that incorporates the invention’s concept, promoting physical education and teamwork.

  • Life Skills Discussion:

Jordan will reflect on the challenges inventors face and discuss the importance of perseverance and problem-solving in life. This can include a role-play scenario where Jordan acts as an inventor pitching their idea.
