Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jordan will have a foundational understanding of how various subjects interconnect through the lens of web page development. He will create a simple web page that incorporates elements from Art, English, Foreign Language, History, Math, Music, Physical Education, Science, and Social Studies, enhancing his critical thinking, logic, and life skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer with internet access
  • Text editor (like Notepad or any code editor)
  • Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS (optional, but helpful)
  • Notebook and pen for brainstorming and notes
  • Access to online resources for research (like Wikipedia or educational websites)
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, paper, etc. for sketches)

Activities

  • Web Page Brainstorming: Jordan will brainstorm ideas for his web page, focusing on how each subject can be represented. He will create a mind map connecting web development to the different subjects.

  • Subject Integration: Jordan will select one element from each subject to include in his web page. For example, he could use a famous historical quote in English, a math problem to solve, or an ASL video link.

  • Design and Create: Using his sketches and ideas, Jordan will start coding his web page. He will incorporate visuals from Art, text from English, and any other elements he has chosen.

  • Presentation: Jordan will present his web page to a family member or friend, explaining how he integrated each subject and what he learned through the process.

  • English: "Words matter. What message do I want to convey with my text?"
  • Foreign Language: "Learning a new language opens doors. How can I incorporate ASL into my web page?"
  • History: "History teaches us lessons. What historical event can inspire my web design?"
  • Math: "Math is everywhere! How can I use numbers or patterns in my design?"
  • Music: "Music sets the mood. What song can I link to that complements my web page's theme?"
  • Physical Education: "Health is important. How can I promote physical activity through my web page?"
  • Science: "Science helps us understand the world. What scientific fact can I share on my site?"
  • Social Studies: "Understanding society is key. What social issue can I highlight?"
  • Critical Thinking: "How can I make my web page engaging and informative?"
  • Logic: "What makes sense in my design? Does everything flow logically?"
  • Common Sense: "Is my content appropriate and respectful?"
  • Philosophy: "What is the purpose of my web page? What do I want my audience to think?"
