This lesson will also enhance critical thinking and life skills through practical applications and creative expression.

Materials and Prep

  • Computer with internet access
  • Text editor (like Notepad or any code editor)
  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • Access to online resources for HTML/CSS tutorials
  • Notebook for taking notes
  • Reference books on art, music, and history (optional)

Before the lesson, ensure Jordan is familiar with basic computer operations and has a general understanding of what HTML and CSS are.

Activities

  • HTML/CSS Basics:

Jordan will begin by learning the basic structure of an HTML document and how to apply CSS styles. This can include creating headings, paragraphs, and using styles to change colors and fonts.

  • Art Integration:

Jordan will create a simple webpage that showcases their favorite artwork. They can draw or digitally create art pieces and then use HTML to display them on the webpage.

  • History Timeline:

Jordan will research a historical event and create a timeline using HTML. They will learn how to use lists and links to navigate through the timeline on their webpage.

  • Music Playlist:

Jordan will create a section on their webpage dedicated to their favorite songs, using HTML to list the songs and CSS to style it. They can also include links to music videos.

  • Physical Education Reflection:

Jordan will write a short reflection on their favorite physical activities and how they contribute to a healthy lifestyle, formatted using HTML.

Talking Points

  • Art: "Art is a way to express who we are. How can we use colors and shapes in our webpage to reflect our personality?"
  • English: "Writing is like coding; both require clarity and structure. How can we make our webpage's text engaging?"
  • History: "Every webpage tells a story, just like history. What story do you want your webpage to tell?"
  • Math: "In coding, we often use logic and patterns. How can we apply math to create a balanced layout?"
  • Music: "Music can enhance the mood of our webpage. What songs would you choose to represent your theme?"
  • Physical Education: "Just like in sports, we need practice to get better at coding. What skills do you want to improve?"
  • Science: "Just as science relies on experimentation, coding allows us to test and see how changes affect our webpage. What will you experiment with?"
  • Social Studies: "Webpages can connect us to cultures around the world. How can we represent diversity on our site?"
