Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jordan will understand the basics of financial stability and prosperity, including budgeting, saving, and investing. Jordan will also develop critical thinking and life skills that can help in making informed financial decisions in the future.

Materials and Prep

  • Basic supplies for a cooking activity (if applicable)
  • Resources for ASL (American Sign Language) vocabulary related to finance (can be created or researched)

Activities

  • Budgeting Game:

    Jordan will create a simple budget for a fictional character based on their monthly income and expenses. This activity will help him understand the importance of managing money and making choices.

  • Cooking Challenge:

    Jordan will plan and prepare a meal on a budget. He'll have to calculate the cost of ingredients and then cook the meal, teaching him about budgeting in everyday life.

  • ASL Vocabulary Session:

    Jordan will learn key ASL signs related to finance, such as "money," "save," "spend," and "budget." This will integrate language learning with financial concepts.

  • Critical Thinking Discussion:

    Jordan will engage in a discussion about financial decisions, evaluating different scenarios and outcomes. This will enhance his critical thinking and logic skills.

  • Common Sense Scenarios:

    Jordan will be presented with various financial situations and will have to decide the best course of action, applying common sense and logic to each scenario.
