Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jordan will understand the concept of photographic memory and how it can be applied across various subjects. Jordan will develop skills in reading, spelling, American Sign Language (ASL), home economics, life skills, critical thinking, logic, and common sense through engaging activities that enhance memory retention and recall.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen/pencil for note-taking
  • Flashcards for spelling and ASL vocabulary
  • Access to a kitchen for home economics activities
  • Everyday items for life skills practice (e.g., grocery list, simple recipes)
  • Logic puzzles or riddles for critical thinking exercises
  • Printed or written stories for reading comprehension

Before the lesson, ensure that all materials are ready and easily accessible. Familiarize yourself with some basic ASL signs to teach during the lesson.

Activities

  • Memory Match Game: Create a set of flashcards with words and their definitions or ASL signs. Jordan will play a memory match game to enhance recall and retention skills.
  • Cooking Challenge: Choose a simple recipe and have Jordan memorize the steps and ingredients. Afterward, cook the dish together, discussing the importance of memory in everyday tasks.
  • Story Retelling: Read a short story together. After reading, challenge Jordan to retell the story from memory, focusing on key details and themes.
  • Logic Puzzle Time: Solve a series of logic puzzles or riddles together. Discuss the strategies used to solve them and how memory plays a role in critical thinking.
  • ASL Vocabulary Practice: Introduce a set of new ASL signs. Jordan will practice memorizing them and then demonstrate them through a short conversation with you.
