Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jordan will have a deeper understanding of self-love and its importance in everyday life. He will explore self-love through various subjects, including reading, spelling, American Sign Language (ASL), home economics, life skills, critical thinking, logic, and common sense. Jordan will also create a personal self-love plan that he can implement in his daily routine.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or journal
  • Pencil or pen
  • Printed quotes about self-love (optional)
  • Access to a mirror
  • Ingredients for a simple recipe (e.g., smoothie or salad)
  • Time for a nature walk or personal reflection

Activities

  • Reading & Reflection: Jordan will read a short article or a few quotes about self-love. After reading, he will write down his thoughts and feelings about what self-love means to him.

  • Spelling & Vocabulary: Jordan will create a list of words related to self-love (e.g., confidence, kindness, acceptance). He will practice spelling these words and use them in sentences.

  • ASL Signs for Self-Love: Jordan will learn and practice a few ASL signs related to self-love, such as "love," "happy," and "beautiful." He can create a short video demonstrating the signs.

  • Home Economics - Healthy Recipe: Jordan will choose a simple healthy recipe to prepare, focusing on nourishing his body as an act of self-love. He will write down the recipe and the steps involved.

  • Life Skills - Personal Reflection: Jordan will spend time in front of a mirror, practicing positive affirmations and reflecting on his qualities. He will write down three things he loves about himself.

  • Critical Thinking & Logic: Jordan will engage in a discussion about the difference between self-love and selfishness. He can write down his thoughts and come up with examples for each.

Talking Points

  • "Self-love is not selfish; it's about taking care of your own needs so you can be the best version of yourself."
  • "Think about one thing you love about yourself. How does it make you feel?"
  • "What are some ways you can show yourself kindness and compassion every day?"
  • "Why is it important to practice self-love, especially during tough times?"
  • "How does loving yourself help you love others better?"
  • "Can you think of a time when you felt proud of yourself? What did you do to celebrate that feeling?"
  • "Remember, self-love is a journey, not a destination. What steps can you take to keep moving forward?"
