Objective

By the end of this lesson, Jordan Gabriel Jasmine will have a foundational understanding of the skills and knowledge required to think like a private investigator. This includes enhancing reading comprehension, spelling, critical thinking, logic, and life skills, while also exploring the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) and health awareness.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for notes and reflections
  • Access to a computer or tablet for research
  • Books or articles about famous private investigators
  • Basic ASL resources (online videos or apps)
  • Health-related pamphlets or articles
  • Logic puzzles or riddles for critical thinking exercises
  • Cooking supplies for a simple life skills lesson

Activities

  1. Reading & Research:

Jordan will read about famous private investigators, such as Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew. After reading, he will summarize the key traits that make them successful in their investigations and discuss how these traits can apply to everyday life.

  2. Spelling Challenge:

Create a list of vocabulary words related to private investigation (e.g., investigate, evidence, suspect). Jordan will practice spelling these words and use them in sentences that reflect the context of a private investigator's work.

  3. ASL Basics:

Jordan will learn basic ASL signs related to investigation, such as "help," "find," and "question." He will practice these signs by creating a short dialogue with a family member or friend.

  4. Logic Puzzles:

Engage in solving logic puzzles and riddles that require critical thinking. Jordan will work on a few puzzles and then explain his thought process in solving them.

  5. Cooking as a Life Skill:

Jordan will learn to prepare a simple meal, discussing the importance of nutrition and health. He will also reflect on how cooking can be a valuable skill for problem-solving in everyday life.
