- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

- 1 mixing bowl
- 1 knife (to be used with adult supervision)
- 1 measuring cup
- 1 measuring spoon
- 1 baking dish or pie pan
- Oven (with adult supervision)
Before starting, make sure you have everything ready and that an adult is nearby to help with the oven and using the knife!
Activities
-
Apple Picking: Go to your kitchen and pick out the apples! Talk about what kind of apples you have and why you chose them. Are they sweet or tart?
-
Mixing Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, let’s peel and slice the apples together. Then, we can mix them with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice! This is a great time to practice measuring!
-
Assembling the Pie: Now it’s time to put everything into the pie crust! We can layer the apples nicely and make it look pretty. Let’s have fun with this part!
-
Baking Time: With an adult’s help, we’ll put the pie in the oven. While it’s baking, we can talk about how heat changes the ingredients and makes the pie delicious!
-
Taste Test: Once the pie is done and cooled, it’s time for the best part—tasting it! Let’s see how our hard work paid off!
Talking Points
- "Did you know apples are a fruit? They grow on trees!"
- "What do you think will happen when we put the pie in the oven? The heat will cook the apples and make them soft!"
- "Why do we add sugar? It makes the pie sweet and yummy!"
- "Cinnamon smells so good! It adds flavor to our pie. Do you like the smell?"
- "Lemon juice helps keep the apples from turning brown. Isn’t that cool?"
- "How do you think the pie will look when it’s done? Let’s imagine it together!"
- "What was your favorite part of making the pie? Baking is fun because we get to eat what we made!"
