Objective

By the end of this lesson, Valentino will be able to identify and use basic math vocabulary in Spanish while creating a fun musical rhythm that incorporates counting and simple math operations.

Materials and Prep

  • Access to Duolingo for Spanish practice
  • A notebook and pencil for notes and exercises
  • Some musical instruments (or household items to create rhythms, like pots and pans)
  • A list of basic math vocabulary in Spanish (numbers 1-10, addition, subtraction)

Activities

  • Spanish Math Vocabulary Practice: Start by practicing basic math terms in Spanish using Duolingo. Valentino will focus on numbers and simple operations like addition and subtraction.

  • Math Rhythms: Create a fun rhythm using household items. Valentino can clap or tap out the rhythm while counting in Spanish, integrating the math vocabulary learned.

  • Math Songs: Make up a short song using the math vocabulary in Spanish. Valentino can use a simple tune he knows and replace the words with the Spanish terms he has learned.

  • Math Challenges: Valentino can create simple math problems in Spanish and solve them using the instruments to keep the rhythm, for example, "Dos más tres es cinco" (2 + 3 = 5).
