Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify and use action words (verbs) in sentences. They will have fun learning through interactive activities and will be able to demonstrate their understanding by creating their own sentences with verbs.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Colored pencils or markers
- Sticky notes
- A timer (can be a phone or kitchen timer)
- A space to move around for activities
Before starting the lesson, make sure to have a clear area for the activities and gather all materials. It may also help to think of some fun verbs that the student enjoys, such as "jump," "run," "dance," and "sing."
Activities
-
Verb Charades:
In this game, the student will act out different verbs while you guess what they are. Take turns acting and guessing to make it more fun!
-
Verb Drawing:
The student will choose their favorite verbs and draw a picture of each action. For example, if they choose "swim," they can draw themselves swimming in a pool!
-
Sentence Creation:
Using sticky notes, the student will write down verbs they’ve learned and then create sentences using those verbs. They can decorate their sentences with drawings or stickers.
-
Verb Hunt:
Set a timer for 5 minutes and have the student find objects around the house that represent different verbs (like a ball for "throw" or a book for "read").
