Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the basics of decorating by creating their own fun and colorful space using simple ideas and their imagination. They will learn how colors, shapes, and textures can change the look of a room or space.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Scissors (with adult supervision)
- Glue
- Magazines or old pictures (for collage)
- Items from around the house (toys, pillows, etc.)
Before the lesson, gather all the materials and set up a comfortable workspace. Ensure safety when using scissors, and prepare to help with any cutting if needed.
Activities
-
Colorful Collage:
Have the student cut out pictures from magazines or old pictures to create a collage. They can choose images of things they love, like animals, colors, or shapes, and glue them onto a piece of paper to decorate their own unique space.
-
Room Design Drawing:
Ask the student to draw their dream room on paper. Encourage them to think about what colors they want to use and what furniture they would like to have. They can add fun details like a big bed or a cozy reading nook!
-
Decorate with Toys:
Using their toys, the student can set up a mini room on a table or floor. They can arrange the toys in a way that makes their own little space cozy and fun. Discuss why they chose to place things where they did.
Talking Points
- "What colors do you like the most? Let's use those in our decorations!"
- "How does it feel when you walk into a room that is bright and happy? Can we make our space feel that way?"
- "Why do you think we use different shapes when we decorate? Shapes can make things look interesting!"
- "What do you think makes a room feel cozy? Is it the colors, the furniture, or maybe the toys?"
- "Remember, decorating is all about having fun and using your imagination! What else can we add to make it special?"
