Objective

By the end of this lesson, Daniella and Alisia will have learned interesting facts about animals while developing their skills in English, Math, and Science. They will create a fun presentation about their favorite animal, incorporating math through counting and measurements, and enhancing their English skills through writing and speaking.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencils or markers
  • Measuring tape or ruler (if available)
  • Access to a computer or smartphone for research (optional)
  • Animal fact sheets (can be created together during the lesson)

Before the lesson, think about which animals Daniella and Alisia are most interested in. This will help guide the activities and keep them engaged.

Activities

  • Animal Fact Research: Daniella and Alisia will choose their favorite animal and gather fun facts about it. They can use books or online resources to find information such as habitat, diet, and unique behaviors.
  • Math with Animals: Using the measuring tape or ruler, they will measure something related to their animal (like the length of their pet or a stuffed animal) and practice counting and adding measurements.
  • Creative Presentation: They will create a poster or a digital slide presentation about their chosen animal, including the facts they've gathered and any drawings or pictures they want to add.
  • Animal Charades: To make the lesson fun, they can take turns acting out their animal while the other guesses what it is. This will help with their communication skills and confidence.

Talking Points

  • "Did you know that an octopus has three hearts? Let's find out more cool facts about animals!"
  • "When we measure, we can learn how big or small our favorite animals are. What do you think is the longest animal?"
  • "Writing about your animal helps you remember what you learned. What fun facts do you want to share?"
  • "Acting like an animal helps us understand their movements and behaviors. What sound does your animal make?"
  • "Let’s think about how animals are different and similar. What makes your animal special?"
