Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to explore and create various artistic designs using different mediums such as kinetic sands, squishy sensory beads, and modeling clay. They will develop fine motor skills, enhance their creativity, and learn about texture and form in art.

Materials and Prep

  • Kinetic sands
  • Squishy sensory beads
  • Drilling beads (with a safe drill or hand tools)
  • Metallic sensory slime
  • Modeling foam
  • Modeling clay

Before the lesson, ensure that all materials are accessible and that the workspace is covered to avoid mess. Discuss safety precautions, especially when using any tools for drilling beads.

Activities

  • Kinetic Sand Sculpting:

Start by molding kinetic sand into different shapes. Encourage the student to create a small sculpture or a landscape, focusing on the texture and form of the sand.

  • Squishy Sensory Bead Collage:

Create a colorful collage using squishy sensory beads. The student can arrange the beads into patterns or shapes on a canvas or paper, exploring color combinations and designs.

  • Drilling Beads Design:

Using drilling beads, let the student create a unique piece of jewelry or a decorative item. Guide them on how to safely drill and assemble the beads into their desired design.

  • Metallic Sensory Slime Art:

Incorporate metallic sensory slime to create a mixed-media art piece. The student can spread the slime on paper and use it as a base to add other materials like beads or clay.

  • Modeling Foam and Clay Creations:

Encourage the student to use modeling foam and clay to create figures or abstract art. They can combine both materials to add depth and dimension to their creations.

Talking Points

  • "Art is all about expressing yourself and experimenting with different materials!"
  • "Feel how different textures can change the way we perceive our artwork. What do you think about the kinetic sand compared to the modeling clay?"
  • "Safety is important, especially when using tools. Always be careful and ask for help if you're unsure!"
  • "Mixing different mediums can lead to exciting results. What happens when we combine slime with beads?"
  • "Every artist has their own unique style. What does your artwork say about you?"
