Objective

By the end of this lesson, Daniella and Alisia will have explored the beauty of woods nature through art, improved their English vocabulary, practiced basic math skills using natural objects, engaged in physical activities, and learned interesting science facts about trees and wildlife.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencils for drawing and writing
  • A measuring tape or ruler (can use a stick if no measuring tape is available)
  • Natural objects like leaves, twigs, and stones found in the woods
  • Open space in nature for physical activities
  • Knowledge about local trees and wildlife (basic facts that can be shared during the lesson)

Activities

  • Nature Art: Daniella and Alisia will collect leaves, twigs, and stones to create a nature collage on paper. They can arrange the items in any design they like and glue them down with natural glue (like sap) if available.
  • Story Time: After creating their art, the girls will write a short story or poem inspired by their nature collage. This will help them practice their English writing skills.
  • Math Scavenger Hunt: The girls will measure the length of different twigs or the height of small trees using the measuring tape or ruler. They can record their findings and create simple math problems using the measurements.
  • Nature Relay Race: Set up a small obstacle course using natural features like logs or rocks. The girls will race against each other while incorporating fun physical activities such as jumping over logs or crawling under branches.
  • Science Exploration: Together, they will learn about the different types of trees in their area. They can identify at least three different types of trees and discuss their unique features and the animals that live in them.

Talking Points

  • “What do you notice about the shapes and colors of the leaves we collected?”
  • “Can you think of a story that includes a tree or an animal from the woods?”
  • “How can we measure the height of this tree? What tools can we use?”
  • “What was the most challenging part of the relay race? How did it feel to complete it?”
  • “Why do you think trees are important to the environment? What role do they play for animals?”
