Objective
By the end of this lesson, Liam will understand the different zones of the ocean, the characteristics of each zone, and the types of animals that inhabit them. He will also reinforce his understanding of how light behaves underwater, especially how it refracts and diminishes with depth.
Materials and Prep
- Pen and paper for notes and drawings
- Access to a computer or tablet for research (optional)
- Ocean zone chart (can be drawn or printed)
- Colored pencils or markers
Before the lesson, prepare an ocean zone chart that outlines the different zones: Intertidal, Neritic, Oceanic, Benthic, and Abyssal. Make sure Liam has a clear understanding of the experiment he conducted about light in ocean water.

Ocean Zone Exploration: Liam will research and create a colorful chart that illustrates each ocean zone. He can draw pictures of the animals that live in each zone and label them. This will help him visualize the different environments.

Animal Match Game: Create a matching game where Liam has to match animals to their respective ocean zones. He can use drawings or printed images of animals and place them on the correct zone on his chart.
