Objective
By the end of this lesson, Charlotte will understand the basic concepts of weather, including different types of weather, how it affects our daily lives, and the importance of weather forecasting.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Crayons or markers
- Access to a window to observe the weather
- A notebook or journal for recording observations
Before the lesson, make sure to check the current weather conditions so that Charlotte can observe and discuss them during the activities.
Activities
-
Weather Observation: Charlotte will look out the window and describe what she sees. Is it sunny, rainy, or cloudy? She can draw a picture of the weather outside.
-
Weather Chart: Together, create a simple weather chart. Each day, Charlotte can draw a picture of the weather and write the date. This will help her notice patterns over time.
-
Weather Story: Charlotte can create a short story about a day in the life of a weather element, like a raindrop or a snowflake. This will help her understand how weather affects things around us.
-
Weather Dance: To make it fun, Charlotte can create a dance that represents different types of weather. For example, she can jump like raindrops or spin like a snowflake!
Talking Points
- "What do you see outside? Is it sunny, rainy, or cloudy?"
- "Did you know that weather can change every day? Let’s keep track of it together!"
- "Why do you think the weather is important? It helps plants grow and tells us what to wear!"
- "Can you think of a time when the weather changed your plans? Like when it rains and we stay inside?"
- "What kind of weather do you like best? Why?"
- "Let’s pretend to be different weather elements! How would a raindrop dance? How about a sunny day?"
