Objective

By the end of this lesson, Maisie will learn basic boxing techniques, improve her physical fitness through skipping, and understand the importance of exercise for health and well-being.

Materials and Prep

  • Comfortable athletic clothing
  • Boxing gloves (if available, otherwise just hands)
  • Jump rope (if available, otherwise just skipping without a rope)
  • A safe outdoor or indoor space for boxing and skipping
  • Water bottle for hydration

Before starting the lesson, ensure that the area is clear of obstacles and safe for physical activities. Remind Maisie to stay hydrated throughout the lesson!

Activities

  • Warm-Up Exercises

Start with a 5-minute warm-up that includes light jogging, arm circles, and leg stretches to prepare the body for exercise.

  • Basic Boxing Techniques

Teach Maisie the basic boxing stance, jab, cross, and how to throw punches safely. Practice these techniques in a fun, engaging way, perhaps by shadow boxing or using a pillow as a target.

  • Boxing Drills

Set up a series of boxing drills where Maisie can practice her punches and footwork. Incorporate fun challenges, such as seeing how many punches she can throw in 30 seconds.

  • Skipping Challenge

After boxing, transition to skipping. Set a timer for 10 minutes and see how many skips Maisie can do, or create a fun game like skipping while counting to a certain number or singing a song.

  • Cool Down and Stretching

End the session with a cool-down period that includes gentle stretching to relax the muscles and reflect on the activities completed.
