Objective

By the end of this lesson, Vera will create her own unique painting using basic painting techniques, express her creativity, and learn about color mixing and composition.

Materials and Prep

  • Watercolor paint or acrylic paint
  • Paintbrushes (one small and one large)
  • Water container for rinsing brushes
  • Paper (watercolor paper or thick drawing paper)
  • Paper towels or a cloth for cleanup

Before starting the lesson, make sure the workspace is covered to protect surfaces from paint spills and that all materials are easily accessible.

Activities

  1. Color Mixing Fun: Start by exploring how to mix colors. Vera can take a few primary colors and experiment with mixing them to create new colors. This is a great way to learn about color theory!

  2. Nature Inspiration: Go outside for a short walk and look for inspiration in nature. Vera can pick her favorite colors from flowers, leaves, or the sky to use in her painting.

  3. Painting Time: Using the colors she mixed and the inspiration she found, Vera will paint her picture. Encourage her to be creative and not worry about making it perfect!

  4. Show and Tell: After finishing her painting, Vera can share her artwork with you. She can explain what inspired her and what techniques she used while painting.
