Objective

By the end of this lesson, Daniella and Alisia will have a deeper understanding of the human body and its functions, as well as how art and math can be integrated into science. They will create a fun art project that represents what they've learned, write a short reflection, and solve some math problems related to their findings.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • Notebook for writing reflections
  • Basic math tools (pencil, eraser)
  • Access to the internet for research (if needed)

Before starting the lesson, ensure you have a quiet space for activities and discussions. Review any notes or materials from the visit to the Eureka Science Museum to refresh your memory about the human body exhibits.

Activities

  • Art Project: Create Your Own Body Map - Using the paper and colored pencils, Daniella and Alisia will draw a large outline of a human body. They will label different organs and systems they learned about at the museum, adding colors and illustrations to make it visually appealing.

  • Math Challenge: Body Measurements - Measure the length of their arms, legs, and torso using a ruler or tape measure. They will then calculate the total length of their body parts combined and find the average length of each part.

  • Reflection Writing: What Did You Learn? - In their notebooks, Daniella and Alisia will write a short paragraph reflecting on what they learned about the human body at the museum. They can include their favorite exhibit and why it stood out to them.

Talking Points

  • "What are the main systems of the human body, and how do they work together?"
  • "Can you name some organs and their functions? For example, what does the heart do?"
  • "Why is it important to understand how our body works?"
  • "How can art help us understand science better?"
  • "What math skills did you use when measuring your body parts?"
  • "How do you think your body compares to the average human body?"
  • "What was your favorite part of the museum, and why?"
  • "How can we keep our bodies healthy based on what we learned?"
