Objective

By the end of this lesson, Gabrielle will research and select an idea for special effects media makeup, creating a concept for a character and understanding the techniques involved in the process. She will also enhance her English skills by writing a descriptive piece about her chosen makeup idea.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or sketchbook
  • Pens or pencils
  • Access to the internet for research
  • Art supplies for sketching (optional)
  • Reference materials on special effects makeup (books, articles, videos)

Before the lesson, Gabrielle should familiarize herself with basic terms related to special effects makeup, such as "prosthetics," "face painting," and "color theory." This will help her grasp the concepts more easily.

Activities

  • Research Phase:

Gabrielle will spend time researching different types of special effects makeup. She can look for inspiration in movies, TV shows, or online tutorials. This will help her understand the variety of techniques and styles available.

  • Concept Development:

Once she has gathered ideas, Gabrielle will choose one specific concept to develop further. She will sketch her idea and write down the materials and techniques she would use to create the look.

  • Descriptive Writing:

Gabrielle will write a short descriptive piece about her chosen makeup concept. This should include details about the character, the emotions the makeup conveys, and the techniques she plans to use.

  • Presentation:

Finally, Gabrielle will present her concept to an audience (this could be a family member or even a video recording). She will explain her research process, the concept she chose, and why she finds it interesting.
