Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand how to make eggs safely and independently, while also learning about the importance of breakfast and basic cooking skills.

Materials and Prep

  • Eggs
  • Butter or oil (for cooking)
  • Salt and pepper (optional)
  • A frying pan
  • A spatula
  • A bowl (for cracking eggs)
  • A stove (with adult supervision)
  • A plate (for serving)

Before starting, make sure to explain the importance of safety in the kitchen, especially when using the stove. Always have an adult nearby to help!

Activities

  • Egg Cracking Challenge

Have the student practice cracking eggs into a bowl. You can turn it into a game by seeing how many eggs they can crack without getting any shells in the bowl!

  • Butter or Oil Exploration

Let the student choose whether to use butter or oil and explain how each one changes the taste of the eggs. They can even smell and feel the difference before using it.

  • Cooking Time!

With adult supervision, allow the student to pour the eggs into the pan and watch them cook. They can use the spatula to stir and see how the eggs change from liquid to solid!

  • Plate Presentation

Once the eggs are cooked, let the student serve them on a plate. Encourage them to think about how to make it look nice, maybe adding a sprinkle of salt or pepper.

Talking Points

  • "What do you think makes breakfast so important?"
  • "Can you tell me why we need to be careful in the kitchen?"
  • "How do you think the eggs change when we cook them?"
  • "What do you like most about cooking your own breakfast?"
  • "How many different ways can we cook eggs? Can you think of any?"
  • "What will you tell someone else about making eggs?"
