Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a comprehensive understanding of the history of the Ford Mustang, including its significance in American culture, key design changes over the years, and its impact on the automotive industry. The student will also engage in creative activities that connect art, writing, math, science, and social studies to the Mustang's legacy.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pencil for writing and drawing
  • Access to the internet for research (if available)
  • Art supplies (colored pencils, markers, or crayons)
  • Printable timeline template (can be drawn on paper if printing isn't available)
  • Measuring tape or ruler for math activities

Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with key milestones in Ford Mustang history, including its introduction in 1964, major design changes, and its cultural significance in movies and music.

Activities

  1. Design Your Own Mustang:

Using art supplies, the student will create a drawing of their dream Mustang. They can choose the color, design, and any special features they would like to include. This activity encourages creativity and personal expression.

  2. Mustang Timeline:

The student will create a timeline of significant events in the history of the Ford Mustang. They can include the year of the Mustang's debut, major redesigns, and any famous appearances in movies or TV shows.

  3. Math with Mustangs:

Using the dimensions of a Ford Mustang (length, width, and height), the student will calculate the area and perimeter of the car. They can also compare the size of the Mustang to other cars they know.

  4. Mustang Research Project:

The student will research a specific model of the Mustang and write a short report about its features, performance, and historical significance. This will help improve their writing and research skills.

  5. Mustang in Popular Culture:
