Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the importance of character and leadership, and how they relate to making good choices and being a positive influence on others. The student will also learn about different leadership styles and how to practice being a leader in everyday situations.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or markers
  • A timer (can use a phone or clock)
  • Space for activities (indoor or outdoor)
  • Preparation: Think about a personal experience where you showed good character or leadership.

Activities

  • Character Traits Collage:

Using paper and colored pencils, create a collage of words and drawings that represent qualities of good character, such as honesty, kindness, and bravery. This will help visualize the traits that make a good leader.

  • Leadership Role-Play:

Act out different leadership scenarios with the student. For example, pretend to be a team captain or a group project leader. Discuss what actions and words make a good leader in each situation.

  • Story Time Reflection:

Read a short story or watch a video about a character who demonstrates strong leadership. Afterward, discuss what the character did well and how the student can apply those lessons in their own life.

  • Leadership Challenge:

Set a timer for 10 minutes and challenge the student to lead a small group activity, like organizing a game or helping with a household task. Reflect on what went well and what could be improved afterward.

  • "Can you name some leaders you admire? What do they do that you like?"
  • "How do you feel when someone shows kindness or honesty? Why do you think those traits are important?"
  • "Leaders often have to make tough choices. Can you think of a time you had to make a tough choice?"
  • "What does it mean to be a role model? How can you be a role model for your friends and family?"
  • "Remember, being a leader isn't just about giving orders; it's about helping and inspiring others!"
  • "How can you practice being a leader in your everyday life, like at home or with friends?"
  • "Leadership is about teamwork. How can you work together with others to achieve a goal?"
  • "What is one thing you learned today that you can use to be a better leader?"
