Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to demonstrate basic running and jumping skills through fun and engaging games. They will improve their coordination, balance, and overall physical fitness while enjoying the activities.
Materials and Prep
- No special materials are needed for this lesson.
- Ensure there is a safe, open space for running and jumping, such as a backyard or park.
- Dress the student in comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for physical activity.
Activities
-
Jumping Jacks: Start with a fun warm-up by doing jumping jacks together. Count to 10 as you both jump out and in, moving your arms up and down. This gets the heart pumping and is a great way to start the lesson!
-
Run and Jump Relay: Set up two markers about 10 feet apart. The student will run to the first marker, jump as high as they can, then run back. Time them to see how fast they can go, and encourage them to beat their own time!
-
Jump Over the River: Pretend there is a river on the ground. The student must jump over it without touching the "water." You can change the width of the river to make it more challenging as they improve.
-
Animal Jumps: Have the student mimic different animals while jumping. For example, they can hop like a frog or jump like a kangaroo. This activity will make jumping more fun and imaginative!
