Objective
By the end of this lesson, ALEF will explore different textures and sensations through fun sensory play activities. ALEF will learn to identify various materials and express feelings associated with each sensory experience.
Materials and Prep
- Water (for water play)
- Sand or dirt (for digging and pouring)
- Rice or pasta (for scooping and pouring)
- Playdough (for molding and shaping)
- Different fabrics (like cotton, silk, and wool)
- Small containers (for sorting and mixing)
- Measuring cups and spoons (for pouring and measuring)
Before the lesson, ensure that the play area is set up with a clean surface for sensory play. Prepare each material in separate containers for easy access during activities.
Activities
-
Water Play:
Fill a shallow container with water. Let ALEF use cups and spoons to pour, splash, and mix the water. Discuss how the water feels and what happens when it moves.
-
Sand or Dirt Exploration:
Provide a container with sand or dirt. ALEF can dig, pour, and create shapes. Talk about how it feels dry, wet, or cool when touched.
-
Rice or Pasta Sensory Bin:
Fill a bin with rice or pasta. ALEF can use hands to scoop, pour, and sift through the materials. Ask ALEF to describe the sound and feeling of the rice or pasta.
-
Playdough Creations:
Let ALEF use playdough to make different shapes or animals. Discuss the softness and how it can be squished or rolled.
-
Fabric Feelings:
Provide different fabrics for ALEF to touch. Let ALEF compare how each fabric feels and discuss which one is favorite and why.
Talking Points
- "How does the water feel when you splash it? Is it warm or cold?"
- "What happens when you dig in the sand? Can you make a shape?"
- "Can you hear the rice when you pour it? What does it sound like?"
- "Is the playdough soft or hard? What can you make with it?"
- "How do the different fabrics feel? Which one do you like the best?"
- "What was your favorite thing to do today? Why did you like it?"
