By the end of this lesson, the student will have a clear understanding of the POAC (Planning, Organizing, Actuating, Controlling) framework and how to effectively implement it in their supervisory role. They will develop practical skills to overcome common challenges faced by supervisors and enhance their leadership capabilities to achieve organizational goals.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook and pen for taking notes
  • Whiteboard and markers for brainstorming sessions
  • Printed handouts on the POAC framework
  • Timer for activity management
  • Scenario cards for role-play activities
  • Access to a quiet space for discussions and activities

Before the lesson, ensure the student has a basic understanding of supervisory roles and responsibilities. Familiarity with organizational structures will also be beneficial.

Activities

  • POAC Role-Play: In this activity, the student will participate in a role-play scenario where they will act as a supervisor facing a specific challenge. This will help them practice applying the POAC principles in real-life situations.
  • Group Brainstorming Session: The student will brainstorm with you to identify common challenges supervisors face. Together, you will categorize these challenges according to the POAC framework, promoting collaboration and critical thinking.
  • Planning Exercise: The student will create a detailed plan for a fictional project, using the POAC framework. This will include outlining objectives, organizing team roles, and establishing control measures to ensure project success.
  • Reflection and Discussion: After completing the activities, the student will reflect on what they learned and discuss how they can apply these concepts in their own supervisory role. This will solidify their understanding and encourage personal growth.
