Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to analyze and interpret dragon-themed reading passages, identify key story elements, and demonstrate comprehension through written responses.

Materials and Prep

  • Dragon-themed reading passages (can be found online or in books)

Activities

  1. Introduce the topic of dragons and ask the student what they already know about them. Encourage discussion and sharing of ideas.
  2. Provide the student with a dragon-themed reading passage. Ask them to read it silently and underline any unfamiliar words.
  3. Discuss the passage with the student, asking questions to check comprehension and encouraging them to share their thoughts and opinions.
  4. Ask the student to identify the main characters, setting, and plot of the story. Have them write a brief summary of the passage, including these story elements.
  5. Encourage the student to analyze the dragon's role in the story. Have them write a paragraph explaining how the dragon impacts the plot and other characters.
  6. Provide the student with another dragon-themed reading passage. This time, ask them to annotate the text by highlighting or underlining important details or events.
  7. Discuss the annotated passage with the student, focusing on the significance of the highlighted elements and how they contribute to the overall story.
  8. Ask the student to write a short response to the passage, discussing their favorite part and explaining why it stood out to them.
