Activities
- Introduce Japan: Start by discussing Japan with the student. Show pictures or videos of famous landmarks, such as Mount Fuji or the Tokyo Tower. Talk about the culture, food, and traditions of Japan.
- Spelling Bee: Create a list of 10 common words related to Japan. Examples can include sushi, kimono, samurai, origami, ninja, sakura, bonsai, sumo, geisha, and Tokyo. Give the student time to study the words and then hold a spelling bee. Take turns pronouncing the words and have the student spell them out loud. Keep track of how many words they spell correctly.
- Word Search: Create a word search puzzle with words related to Japan. Include some of the words from the spelling bee as well as additional words like Japan, rice, tea, anime, manga, and karate. Have the student find and circle the words in the puzzle.
- Write Sentences: Ask the student to choose three words from the spelling bee or word search and write a sentence for each word. Encourage them to be creative and use their imagination. Check their sentences for spelling and grammar.
