Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and use different parts of speech in English sentences while learning about Japan.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pencil
- Access to a computer or library for research (optional)
Activities
Start by discussing Japan with your student. Ask them what they know about Japan and write down their answers. Encourage them to think about the culture, food, and landmarks.
Introduce the concept of parts of speech. Explain that words in English can be categorized into different groups based on their function in a sentence.
Review the different parts of speech with your student, focusing on nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Provide examples and ask them to give their own examples of each.
Now, have your student create sentences about Japan using the parts of speech they just learned. Encourage them to be creative and descriptive with their sentences.
Once they have written a few sentences, have them share their sentences with you and explain the parts of speech they used in each sentence.
As an extension activity, you can encourage your student to do some research about Japan. They can find interesting facts and use them to create more sentences using different parts of speech.
