Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to communicate more effectively with peers and adults through fun activities that promote group interaction and informal conversation skills.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials are needed for this lesson.
- Prepare a comfortable space for activities where the student can sit and interact freely.
- Have a few simple prompts or questions ready to encourage conversation.
Activities
- Story Circle:
Gather in a circle and take turns telling a story. Each person adds one sentence to the story. This encourages listening and speaking skills while fostering creativity.
- Feelings Charades:
Act out different feelings (happy, sad, surprised) and have the student guess what they are. This helps them understand emotions and how to express them in conversation.
- Question Game:
Take turns asking each other simple questions like "What's your favorite color?" or "Do you like ice cream?" This encourages the student to think about what they want to ask and how to respond.
- Compliment Chain:
Start by giving a compliment to the student, and then encourage them to give one back. This helps build confidence in speaking and positive interactions.
- Guess Who:
Take turns describing a favorite toy or animal without naming it, and let the other person guess what it is. This activity promotes descriptive language and listening skills.
