Materials and Prep

  • White drawing paper
  • Colored pencils
  • Watercolor paints
  • Paintbrushes
  • Water container
  • Pencil
  • Reference images of camping by the ocean

Before starting the lesson, familiarize yourself with different camping activities and elements related to the ocean.

Activities

  1. Begin by discussing camping by the ocean with the student. Talk about the different activities one can do and the elements they might encounter.
  2. Ask the student to choose their favorite camping activity by the ocean.
  3. Using a pencil, have the student sketch a scene of their chosen camping activity on the drawing paper. Encourage them to include details such as tents, campfire, ocean waves, and any other elements they find interesting.
  4. Once the sketch is complete, provide the student with colored pencils to add vibrant colors to their artwork. Encourage them to use different shades and blending techniques to make their drawing more visually appealing.
  5. After coloring, introduce watercolor paints to the student. Demonstrate how to use water and a paintbrush to activate the paints and create a watery effect.
  6. Encourage the student to use the watercolor paints to add depth and texture to their artwork. They can paint the ocean waves, the sky, or any other areas they wish to enhance.
  7. Allow the artwork to dry completely.
  8. Once dry, the student can add any final touches or details using colored pencils if desired.
  9. Display the finished artwork in a prominent place to celebrate the student's creativity and hard work.
