Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will have a clear understanding of team purpose, its significance in collaborative settings, and how to effectively contribute to and enhance a team's objectives. The student will also develop skills in communication and leadership within a team context.

Materials and Prep

  • Notebook or journal for reflections
  • Writing utensils (pen/pencil)
  • Access to a quiet space for discussion and activities
  • Timer for activity durations

Before the lesson, the student should think about their own experiences in teams, whether in sports, school projects, or other group activities. Reflecting on these experiences will help them engage more deeply in the lesson.

Activities

  • Team Purpose Brainstorm: The student will spend 15 minutes brainstorming what they believe the purpose of a team is. They will write down their thoughts and examples from their own experiences.
  • Role Play Scenario: Create a fictional team scenario where the student must assume a role (e.g., leader, communicator, organizer) and navigate a challenge. They will act out how they would contribute to the team's purpose.
  • Reflection and Discussion: After the role play, the student will reflect on their experience and discuss with the teacher how different roles contribute to a team's overall purpose and effectiveness.
  • Goal Setting Activity: The student will create a personal goal related to teamwork and outline steps they can take to achieve it. This can include ways to improve their communication or leadership skills.
