Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a friendly letter while incorporating their name and understanding the parts of a letter. They will also develop their creativity and personal expression through writing.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind will do)
- Pencil or pen
- Optional: Colored pencils or markers for decoration
Before the lesson, ensure that the student understands their full name and the basic structure of a letter: greeting, body, and closing. Remind them that letters can be fun and personal!
Activities
-
Introduction to Letter Writing
Begin by discussing what a letter is and who we write letters to. Ask the student if they have ever received or written a letter. Share examples of different types of letters (friendly, thank you, invitation) to spark their interest.
-
Name Art
Have the student practice writing their name in different styles. They can use bubble letters, cursive, or even decorate their name with drawings or colors. This will help them feel connected to their writing.
-
Write a Friendly Letter
Guide the student in writing a friendly letter to a family member or a friend. They can start with a greeting, share something fun about their day, and end with a closing. Encourage them to sign their name at the end.
-
Decorate the Letter
After writing the letter, the student can decorate it with drawings or designs around the edges. This will make their letter more personal and visually appealing.
-
Share and Read Aloud
Encourage the student to read their letter aloud to you. This will boost their confidence and allow them to practice their speaking skills. Discuss what they enjoyed about writing the letter.
