Objective

By the end of this lesson, Emily will understand the design process for jewelry making and fashion. She will learn about color theory, specifically focusing on complementary colors, and apply this knowledge to create a unique jewelry design concept.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencils for sketching designs
  • Color wheel (can be drawn or printed beforehand)
  • Color markers or colored pencils
  • Reference images of jewelry and fashion items for inspiration
  • Notebook for taking notes on key vocabulary and concepts

Before the lesson, ensure that Emily has a basic understanding of colors and can identify primary and secondary colors. Prepare a color wheel if possible, as it will be a useful visual aid.

Activities

  • Color Wheel Exploration:

Emily will create her own color wheel using colored pencils or markers. This will help her visualize primary, secondary, and complementary colors.

  • Jewelry Design Sketching:

Using her color wheel, Emily will sketch a piece of jewelry (e.g., a necklace or bracelet) that incorporates at least two complementary colors. She can use reference images for inspiration.

  • Fashion Color Palette Creation:

Emily will create a color palette for a fashion outfit that includes her jewelry design. She will choose colors that complement her jewelry and discuss why she chose them.

  • Presentation and Reflection:

Emily will present her jewelry design and color palette, explaining her choices and the design process. This will help her practice articulating her creative ideas.
