Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to create their own Christmas tree using cutting and gluing techniques, fostering creativity and fine motor skills.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (green for the tree, brown for the trunk)
- Child-safe scissors
- Glue stick
- Markers or crayons for decoration
- Optional: Glitter or stickers for added fun
Before the lesson, ensure that the child understands how to use scissors safely and supervise them during cutting. Prepare a clean workspace for the activities.
Activities
-
Cutting the Tree: Start by drawing a simple triangle shape on the green paper. Help the child cut along the lines to create the tree shape. This will help them practice their cutting skills.
-
Creating the Trunk: Using the brown paper, guide the child to cut a rectangle for the trunk of the tree. This reinforces the idea of shapes and sizes.
-
Gluing the Pieces Together: Once the tree and trunk are cut out, show the child how to use the glue stick to attach the trunk to the tree. This is a great opportunity to discuss how glue works.
-
Decorating the Tree: Allow the child to use markers, crayons, glitter, or stickers to decorate their tree. Encourage them to use their imagination and creativity!
