Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will create their own dragon drawing, learn about different types of dragons, and express their creativity through art.
Materials and Prep
- Paper (any kind will do)
- Pencils
- Crayons or colored pencils
- Optional: Markers (if available)
- Space to work comfortably
Before the lesson, it's helpful to think about different types of dragons from stories, movies, or games. This will inspire the student's creativity!
Activities
-
Dragon Sketching:
The student will start by sketching their favorite type of dragon. Encourage them to think about the dragon's features, like wings, tails, and colors. They can take inspiration from books or movies!
-
Dragon Color Creation:
Once the sketch is done, the student can use crayons or colored pencils to color their dragon. Encourage them to use their imagination—dragons can be any color they want!
-
Dragon Story Time:
After coloring, the student can create a short story about their dragon. Ask them questions like, "What is your dragon's name?" and "What adventures does your dragon go on?"
Talking Points
- "What do you think makes a dragon special? Is it their fire-breathing or their flying?"
- "Did you know that dragons come in many shapes and sizes? Some are big and scary, while others are small and friendly!"
- "Let's think about what your dragon might eat. Do you think they like treasure, or maybe they prefer pizza?"
- "How does your dragon feel? Is it happy, grumpy, or maybe a little shy?"
- "What kind of adventures do you think your dragon goes on? Does it fly to faraway lands?"
- "Imagine if you could meet your dragon in real life! What would you say to it?"
- "Let's make sure your dragon looks unique! What special features can we add to make it different from other dragons?"
