Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about dragons using appropriate language and vivid details.

Materials and Prep

  • Pen/pencil
  • Blank paper or notebook

No prior knowledge or preparation is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Brainstorming:

Have the student brainstorm a list of words and phrases that come to mind when they think of dragons. Encourage them to think about appearance, behavior, and any other characteristics they associate with dragons. They can write the words and phrases on a piece of paper or in their notebook.

  2. Descriptive Writing:

Using the list they created in the previous activity, instruct the student to choose one aspect of dragons (e.g., appearance, behavior) and write a descriptive paragraph about it. Remind them to use vivid language, sensory details, and strong adjectives to bring their description to life. Encourage them to be creative and imaginative in their writing.

  3. Editing and Revising:

Once the student has completed their paragraph, have them review and revise their writing. They should check for grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors, as well as make any necessary improvements to sentence structure and clarity.

  4. Sharing and Feedback:

Provide an opportunity for the student to share their descriptive paragraph with you or other family members. Encourage constructive feedback and discussion about their writing. Ask questions to prompt them to think deeper about their descriptions and offer suggestions for improvement.
